Welcome back to our blog for everything adventure! Today we are going to be looking at why we take our Subaru's off the beaten path and why you should too. Now, why would one choose an all-wheel drive platform to explore the outdoors? Well, let's dive into some of the benefits of doing just that!
First off, we are far from the first people doing this, let alone the first company that has had this idea. In the last couple of years, we have seen many leaders in the automotive industry adapt their normal crossover and SUVs to a more rugged package. These trim packages often include things like bigger tires, more clearance and additional features, making your life easier on the trail. Looking at you Subaru Wildernesses. And now with more vehicles to choose from than ever comes a substantial increase in interest in the overland and offroad scenes.
Whether it be a more softroad focused package for those weekend trips on the forest service roads or a package to push the limits of the factory vehicle, these manufacturers, much like us, are helping more people get outdoors. So maybe you already have one or are looking at a used one for your next adventure rig, why should you choose a Subaru?
The first reason why these vehicles make great overlanding rigs is a simple one. Many of these vehicles' older cousins were built with offroad driving in mind and the inspiration has been carried over to the latest generation. Making easy work of the backroads.
Secondly, many of these vehicles(especially the Subarus) have a lower centre of gravity, which allows them to behave great on those day-to-day commutes as well as on the trail. No top-heavy rigs here! And in the case of Subarus, often allowing you to mount up a roof rack without any penalties.
That brings us to reason number three, they have much better fuel economy than full-size rigs due to their original designs of being comuters cars. Not only do you get to see these savings on day-to-day use but also on the adventure itself! Nowadays with fuel prices being so high, this is more important than ever.
Reason number four is particularly focused on Subarus and their amazing AWD systems. Over the years, Subaru has been able to dial in their AWD through their Impreza's and Legacy's racing through the forests and deserts of rally and it shows. Not only does this ensure a safe and efficient drive on the road but it means that you can get the power to all 4 wheels when needed, in every condition.
Lastly, it's just plain fun! When you turn it up to 11, they still have the capacity to keep up with other purpose-built trucks and surprise everyone on the trail. Pair that with the amazing community behind Subarus and you have the perfect combination. We have had the opportunity to push these vehicles extremely hard and have always been impressed with what they can do. And speaking of that, our lifted Forester has been able to keep up with our Grand Cherokee and Gladiator on most trails we have done. That being said, half the fun of a Subaru is after completing an obstacle they always put a smile on your face.
And there you go, these are the top five reasons you should consider a Subaru for your next adventure rig. Hopefully, we have convinced you or at least given you something to think about. As always, if you have any questions about your Subaru or next build, we are happy to have a chat and get you set up with what works best for you.
Until next time, happy trails!
